An OLE registration error occurred

A very common error message that you often see when you open an mail that contains embedded Lotus Notes document links in Outlook 2000 is “An OLE registration error occurred.”

When you open an email message comprising of embedded Lotus Notes document links on a computer where user has migrated from Lotus Notes and the email client is not installed, you can come across the following error message:

“An OLE registration error occurred. The program is not correctly installed. Run Setup again for the program.”

After clicking OK, the email message is not displayed. When Outlook tries to locate the OLE server for the embedded documents, the process results to be unsuccessful as the OLE server is not registered. Outlook then displays the error message. After displaying the error message, Outlook fails to open the message. To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
